Oil Paints

Oil paints can often make a canvas shine
Make the world seem as if it's so damn divine
Maybe they remind me of the shine from her hair
Maybe they remind me of a love that once was there
Started all way too fast and she tried to push
So I did everything I could to try and shake her loose
Living for a disease that I just can't seem to break
Couldn't be too long before I made another mistake
Precious stones and metals I could never afford
I was waiting everyday for her to walk out the door
Wasting every moment on the dime I shouldn't spend
Waiting for the moment for it to finally end
Oil paints can often make a canvas shine
Make the world seem as if it's so damn divine
Maybe they remind me of the shine from her hair
Maybe they remind me of a love that once was there
Late day rising in a cold and empty bed
I'm trying to shake some demons I've let loose in my head
I'm rolling over hoping that I'll catch her smile
Hoping she'll return but it's been quite a while
Oil paints can often make a canvas shine
Make the world seem as if it's so damn divine
Maybe they remind me of the shine from her hair
Maybe they remind me of a love that once was there

When You Turn A Corner

I was thinking that maybe you were something
Talking and this and that all covered with emotion
But baby I just can’t help from feeling
That when you turn a corner there’s someone else you’re seeing
I’m faking easy but I’m feeling like a heart attack
You shut the door and I don’t think you’re ever coming back
My baby I just can’t help but say
When you turn a corner there’s someone else you’re staying with
I’ve been noticing some of your reactions
And this all started with the physical attraction
And I guess there’s every reason for you to be untrue
Baby it’s the kind of thing that I would do to you
Can’t you just be like some memory forgotten?
Drift away like a bottle out to sea
Let somebody else come and rescue you
So my wounded dove can rest a little easy
Didn’t want to just mess around when I moved back to my hometown
But going back ain’t ever part of the dream
Be the man you want to be or just pretend and do everything
There’s always someone who needs you; but, who needs them?
Can’t you just be like some memory forgotten?
Drift away like a bottle out to sea
Let somebody else come and rescue you
So my wounded dove can rest a little easy

Happy Dude

I’ve never had a plan
Plans just change
I like to think I’m a man
But now being one’s strange
I keep swimming upstream
I think it’s just another mile
Worried I’ll run out of steam
Before I find my smile
It can’t only be you
It can’t only be me
What are we to do?
We’d better do something
Now picture your whole life
Tell me is it pretty?
Is it struggle and strife?
Well baby ain’t that a pity?
And I meet stranger everyday
I tell them things that they don’t ask me to say
Sometimes I think I should just get away
Find a new latitude
Adjust my attitude
Man I used to be such a happy dude
Goodbye to the old show
Hello brand new
I’m all out of ammo
It’s just nice to see you

Something Pretty

Clean your act and get yourself employed boy
Don’t you let those bastards get you down
While everyone here just dreams of New York City
Everyone there just dreams of skipping town
I’m starting to find it’s hard to go on living
In the same routine and just shouting all the same lines
I’m tossing up rocks; screaming at your window
“Babe, I’m locked! Can you please throw me down your keys?”
I’ll come up and promise you tomorrow
Promises never last through the night
Hearts were never meant to carry such sorrow
So I keep screaming, “come and take it!”
‘Cause I think that I’m ready to die
And if you want to chase those dreams
Keep around bad company
We’ve got all the right tools boy to keep you down
I’m mad at you; you’re mad at me
There’s nothing left for us to be
And I found I liked it better just sleeping around
So I'm stabbing ice and rambling on about my dreams
It’s like throwing pennies down wishing wells
And its getting to the point where I don’t understand anything
But I’m damn sure that I’m going straight to hell
I watched the skyline fall as I left the city
Wondered about all those friends I left behind
Found myself in the arms of a stranger
So I can be around something pretty when I die

When I Get Around To It

Well is this where I’m supposed to be?
Is all now for the best?
Am I not trying hard enough?
Is life some kind of test?
Was there a turn somewhere I missed?
Is there a better world than this?
Think I’ll take it bit by bit
When I get around to it
Keeping up with my old friends
Checking on the folks every now and again
Ringing up and old flame from the past
Reminding me why it couldn’t last
Remembering how much time has passed
When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it
Someday when I’ve had enough
I’ll go to the interview my daddy set up
401k! Benefits!
Quarter-acre yard and a couple of kids
Going to be someone respectable, yes!
When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it
Well I guess I’m where I’m supposed to be
All must be fore the best
You never know whether or not you passed or failed the test
Don’t let yourself become obsessed
Worrying about everything you might have missed
‘Cause before you know it, that’s it!
You’d better get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it
You better get around to it
So you don’t go out with regret
You’d better get around before you’re underground
Yeah, you’d better get around to it
Never got around to it
Never got around to it
Never got around and now I’m in the ground
No I never got around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it When I get around to it
When I get around to it
When I get around, oh, when I get around
Oh, when I get around to it
